Medical Travel Clearance & EFMP

What is Medical Travel Clearance (screening)?

All permanent change of station (PCS) moves require dependents to undergo a medical travel clearance. This process is conducted to evaluate any special education and/or medical needs of family members. The review will confirm the PCS destination capabilities to support these needs. Screenings are also required for family members enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). The clearances are performed at both the losing and gaining duty stations.

The medical travel clearance is separate from the EFMP program and does not enroll a dependent into the program. At times a record review will meet EFMP enrollment criteria at which time the dependent and sponsor will be notified. EFMP enrollment does not typically affect the already projected PCS assignment.

Navigating the process

Your Travel Screening Questionnaire (TSQ) will be initiated by the Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) and available on myVector (https://myvector.us.af.mil). The Family Member Travel Screener (FMTS) will also be generated by AFPC, depending on the member’s responses, and available in myVector. Questionnaires will generate no sooner than 8 months prior to your RNLTD.

If you have NO dependents: If you are single with no dependents, a TSQ should not be generated. If you have dependents who will not join you at this assignment, state this on the TSQ.This may require coordination with the MPF if you have dependents and a TSQ was not generated. The Family Medical Travel Screener (FMTS) will populate depending on the answers from the TSQ. Information is generated from DEERS, so please keep this information up to date.

For questions about the medical travel clearance process, please contact your local military health clinic’s EFMP-Medical office. Your current duty station can help with enrollment, disenrollment, or updates to your EFMP status and guide you through the medical travel clearance process.

EFMP Screening Process

Why do I need an EFMP Screening?

The EFMP screening process is required for all dependents
enrolled in the program to ensure the appropriate resources are
available at your next assignment.

Medical clearances are performed for all dependents regardless of
EFMP enrollment. If a family member meets EFMP criteria during
the medical clearance process the EFMP office will reach out to the
sponsor to discuss the Q-code and EFMP enrollment process.

Command Sponsorship and Medical Clearances

The Command Sponsorship process should begin with the MPF. Any applications for dependents to join the ADSM at Aviano AB will require medical clearances (just like for PCS) before the command sponsorship application can be submitted.

You can request a command sponsorship package (instructions) by sending a request to the MPF org box 31fss.customersupport@us.af.mil

For medical clearance related questions please contact the EFMP office at usaf.aviano. 31-mdg.mbx.aviano-efmpm@health.mil
