IMPORTANT NOTE: Referrals for OB care/services to the United States or Germany is not a reimbursable TRICARE benefit and will not be authorized. Members who choose this option will be responsible for all travel and medical expenses incurred.

- On-site liaisons and interpreter services are available from Monday 7 a.m. – Saturday 7 a.m.

- During weekend hours (Sat 7:00 AM – Mon 7:00 AM), International SOS will be available to meet our patients’ needs. To access services, beneficiaries can call collect, or ask to be called back. NOTE: This service MUST be activated by the beneficiary.

Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States
A child born abroad to a U.S. citizen parent or parents may acquire U.S. citizenship at birth if certain statutory requirements are met. The child’s parents can apply for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States (CRBA) to document that the child is a U.S. citizen.
The Birth Registration is a mandatory appointment. You must schedule your appointment within 14 days of receiving your Italian birth certificates from the Town Hall. Please be advised appointments typically book out at least 2 weeks.
Appointments are on Monday and Tuesday ONLY. They will not be processed during walk-in hours. Parent(s) and baby are required to be present. No shows are reported to chain of command.

Parent & Infant Programs
New Parent Support Program (NPSP) Support program for families with children under the age of 3. Registered nurses and licensed social workers provide parents with education, training, and deployment support, including:
- Daddy Boot Camp
- Baby Basics
- Wee One’s playgroup
- Customized registered nurse home visits available.
- Sample topics include: pregnancy health, child birth education, breastfeeding support, infant behavior, developmental milestones, coping with military lifestyle & breastfeeding instruction.
Pediatrics Hospital Follow-up Appointments at 31 MDG
- All newborns will need a follow-up appointment 2-4 days after discharge from the host-nation facility.
- During the 31st MDG follow-up visit, the 2-week Well-Baby check (or sooner if necessary) will be scheduled. If circumcision is desired, it must be performed in the Peds clinic within the first 2 weeks of birth.
- Important Note: For circumcisions after 2 weeks of life, the procedure will be performed by a Urologist in the hospital setting. Service will not be available at 31st MDG.
Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program
The WIC Overseas program supports infants and children as well as pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women by providing nutritional education and assistance. For more information please call DSN: 314.632.7473 or Comm: + (39) 0434.30.7473
Birth Registration
- Birth registration MUST be accomplished within 10 days of the birth at the Town Hall in the city in which the baby was born.
- The Italian birth registration forms will be issued at the town hall appointment. This appointment is coordinated by 31st MDG.
- Once registration forms are complete and available, the forms will be required to enroll your newborn into DEERS. Once enrolled in to DEERS, you will be able to apply for your newborn’s passport.
